I paid for Lovable Pro for 3 months. Here's the honest verdict.
Not sponsored. Not a fanboy post. What I actually shipped, what I ran out of credits on, and whether $25/mo is worth it.
I've been paying for Lovable Pro for 90 days out of my own pocket. No affiliate link. No PR contact. Just my credit card and a bunch of half-finished side projects.
Here's what nobody tells you before you subscribe.
What I actually built
Three things shipped, two things didn't:
- A meal-planner for my partner. 4 hours from empty repo to a working app with auth and a database. Genuinely magical.
- A landing page for my consulting side hustle. 2 hours. Looks better than anything I would have designed myself.
- A dashboard for tracking freelance invoices. Shipped, but I had to hand-edit two files to fix a routing bug the AI kept re-introducing.
- A "Duolingo for CLI commands" app. Died at 60% — every iteration broke a different part. I burned about $12 of credits before I gave up.
- An AI chatbot for my dad's plumbing business. Ran out of credits mid-build because I kept regenerating the same component.
The credits math nobody explains
The Pro tier gives you monthly message credits. If you're methodical — thinking before you prompt, batching requests, not asking for redesigns every 20 minutes — it lasts the whole month with room to spare.
If you prompt like it's ChatGPT ("make it prettier", "no different", "actually go back") you'll burn through it in 8 days.
The best prompt I wrote all month was 74 words long. The worst was three: "make it better."
What it's actually good at
- Zero-to-shipped for small tools with a clear database schema
- Landing pages, marketing sites, waitlists
- CRUD apps where the data model is obvious
- Making things look good without me touching CSS
What it's still bad at
- Complex state machines
- Anything requiring careful step-by-step debugging
- Games (don't even try)
- Reading your mind when you say "you know what I mean"
The verdict
At $25/month it's the cheapest developer I've ever hired, and it works weekends. But it's not a magic wand — it's a very fast junior with an occasional case of amnesia. Show up with a plan and it'll fly. Show up with vibes and you'll waste your month.
Would I pay again next month? Yes. But I'd cancel in a heartbeat if they made the credit system less transparent.
